Why Can't You Quit Smoking?

They say that the average person tries to quit smoking five times before they actually kick the habit? One has to wonder why this habit is so addictive. After all, if someone told you to stand over a barrel of smoking leaves and breathe in, you'd think they were crazy. Yet you light cigarette after cigarette, inhaling smoke and other harmful chemicals because your mind and body crave the feeling. This has to stop and the time to do it is now. If you want to quit smoking, forget all the commercials advocating the latest stop smoking products and throw that pack away right now. Throw out all your ashtrays, lighters and make a pact with yourself that you are going to be a non smoker. Once you've done that, you need to brace yourself for what's to come. When you quit smoking, you have to be ready for a very rough and turbulent ride.

Symptoms

You must be ready for the symptoms when you quit smoking. Some of the symptoms you could experience include depression, moodiness, anxiety, lack of or an increased appetite, the feeling of mourning as if you just lost a loved one, and more. When you experience these symptoms, you must keep in mind that that's all they are. They are merely symptoms of you trying to quit smoking. However, you must work to keep this in mind so that you are not overwhelmed by the symptoms, which could lead you to give up your efforts to quit smoking altogether.

Keep Reminders

To help you out when you're trying to quit smoking, leave reminders around the house. Leave sticky notes on the windows and mirrors around the house, in the bathroom, in your bedroom, in the kitchen and even on the refrigerator. This is so that whenever you get the urge to smoke, you can look at these reminders of your efforts to quit smoking. The reminders could be reasons why you want to quit smoking to begin with, they could be reminders of your family members who want you to quit, or they could just be motivational quotes. As long as they remind you of your efforts to quit smoking, they can be useful in overcoming those horrible symptoms until they pass.

The most important thing to remember is that these symptoms will pass. You will be a non smoker if you stick to your plan to quit smoking. However, you're going to have to refrain from those activities that had you smoking in the past and you even might have to refrain from hanging out with anyone who smokes, at least for a while. Before you know it, you'll be able to look at a cigarette and tell yourself, "I used to do that," because then you'll finally be a non smoker once more.
